GivingTuesday first began in 2012 as a day of charitable giving following up the two biggest holiday shopping days of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The goal was to counterbalance commercialism and to establish a dedicated day of giving back to your community. It quickly grew into a movement to promote generosity through donations, volunteering and acts of kindness. This year, we will celebrate Giving Tuesday on December 2.
Why should YOU participate in GivingTuesday?
In 2024 alone, the U.S. raised $3.6 billion by 36.1 million participants. The cumulative total raise for GivingTuesday since its inception in 2012 has been $18.5 billion. For many local non-profits this day of giving kicks off their annual year-end giving campaigns.
By bringing awareness to local non-profits, it allows them to recruit more volunteers to help spread their mission and to highlight the impact of volunteers giving through their time. By utilizing a single day of giving, non-profits can make a bigger impact by engaging with volunteers, potential donors and those advocating for their organization.
GivingTuesday is a powerful way to support organizations and causes that matter most to you. It helps to strengthens the Manhattan community and reminds us that everyone has something meaningful to give your time, talent, or treasure.
