We suspect Mike may have missed his calling as a professional athlete, but we’re glad he decided to become a lawyer and trust officer more than 30 years ago. He joined The Trust Company in 2015 to establish our Lawrence office.
Mike earned both his bachelor’s degree in Economics, and a Juris Doctor with an emphasis in Tax and Accounting, from Washburn University. He is a member of the State Bar of Kansas. The fair-play philosophy that Mike has honed over many years of coaching youth sports carries over into his professional life.
“Integrity and honesty in dealing with clients are critical attributes for my professional satisfaction. The Trust Company, where these attributes represent core values, provides a very satisfying environment for clients, colleagues, and for me personally.”
Mike served on the Board of Directors of the Douglas County Estate Planning Council for many years. He has also been extensively involved in youth sports, having served as a board member for the Topeka Swim Association; swimming director for the Sunflower State Games; and an official for Missouri State Swimming. He has also been a coach for youth baseball, softball, basketball and soccer.
Lest we assume his outside interests are purely sports-related, Mike reports that a lifelong love of music led to his project of digitally preserving a music archive of Kansas-based bands of the 1960s and ’70s.
Mike and his wife, Debra, have five children, five grandchildren, and hopefully more grandkids on the way soon.
