Rita joined The Trust Company’s Manhattan office in February 2024 as a receptionist, after realizing she was bored in retirement. One to never sit still and having never met a stranger, Rita is perfect in this role as a first point of contact for phone calls and visitors to our office.
A native of Ellinwood, Kansas, where she grew up one of ten children, Rita and her husband are high school sweethearts who have been married for over 50 years. They have two grown sons who have families of their own – Rita and her husband, Don, enjoy spending time with their seven grandchildren.
A stickler for punctuality, Rita’s favorite quote is: If you’re not 15 minutes early you’re late!
Rita has lived all over the United States as her husband’s career with Cargill kept them moving. Her work experience is vast – she has truly done it all – working as a receptionist at both a law firm and an accounting firm, mom and homemaker, secretary of a high school, restaurant owner for 10 years, and her last job prior to retiring from full-time employment was owning and running a commercial greenhouse for 20 years – where she grew heirloom tomatoes that she supplied to stores in the greater Kansas City area and across the state of Kansas to grocery stores, including Kroger and Hyvee. The next time you bite into a delicious heirloom tomato – think of Rita!
When Rita isn’t working, she spends her free time fishing, gardening, dancing or enjoying time at the lake weather permitting. She and her husband enjoy travel, often weekend trips, but they do take time for one big annual trip to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
